Default Sliders vs. 2x6 rocker rails

2001 4 door XJ Cherokee.

I'm trying to decide between getting sliders vs. replacing the rocker rails with 2x6 tube. I'm inclined to go 2x6 tube and then tie it into the frame (might even boatside it... haven't decided), but wanted some other input before hacking. The rockers seem to be in good shape (vehicle is a CA car that has very little rust), so it's not like they need to be replaced.

What's the advantage of each?

Thanks,
Chris

It really depends on how far you want to go with the jeep. Is this just a daily driver, are you wanting to keep it looking nice?

Pros of 2x6: higher clearance, stronger with the type of frame tie in, will strengthen unibody
Cons: cut up a perfectly good rocker

Pros of bolt on rock rails: they bolt on, can be removed, no body mods
cons: less clearance, not as strong.

I did a mini boatside on mine. I love it. Mine had zero rust. I did mine in prep for my cage.

Do you have some pictures of your "mini boatside"? My XJ is a DD, but I'm not overly concerned with it looking "pretty" (I don't want it to look trashed, but form over function any day). I'd love an external cage (functional and they look awesome)

I went back to that thread, but no pictures are posted (not sure if you forgot to post them or they got pulled). When you get a chance
