I'm also looking for some inexpensive gutter clamps. I've seen lots of old work vans at the JY with latter racks on top, thinking I could get some from there.

that's a good idea, I was just there the other day pulling a center console, but how well do you think those would hold up weight wise?

I have a conifer rack that is pretty heavy duty. I essentially have one piece that hooks under the rail from the inside, and that bolts and clamps to a piece that goes on the outside of the rail. The rack is mounted in between these two pieces. Inexpensive and solid as a rock. Hopefully this gives a a good idea.

I attached my home made rack with jcr gutter mounts. Not the cheapest route and as soon as I got them i realized I could have made my own at work in about 15 min but I don't mind supporting good vendors.
