I regeared my Chrysler 8.25 to 4.88s a couple weeks ago. While I was torquing the ring gear bolts, one of them didn't hold and the threads pulled off of the bolt. Other ones made it to torque but felt like they might strip at any moment. I didn't really pay attention when I put it on to the fact that there were two sets of holes for the ring gear but there were. So I went ahead and ordered a new set of bolts to swap out when I change the fluid after the break in period. Ron pointed out that the two holes are one set of metric and one set of standard holes and that the standard bolts will thread into the metric holes but will likely strip. I'm sure that's what happened. So here's what I'm thinking about doing, I want to remove all of the ring gear bolts and with the wheels on the ground and the brake applied, I want to try using the pinion to spin the ring gear until I can get the new bolts in the correct holes. Who thinks this will or won't work?
