Default opinions on ring gear

So all my ring gear bolts snapped off.

originally my plan was to pull it apart and pull the old broken bolts out, figure out thread pitch and go pick up some new hardware..

so i go to take it apart and i just gotta say screw whoever designed detroit truetrac locker for the chrysler 8.25..
the center pin needs to be pulled to get access to the c clips.
and the center pin interferes with the ring gear. now im sure the fact that the ring gear wasnt torqued down wasnt helping me but there was literally like 1/8" or more interference.

so i looked it up and it seems like the verdict was grinding down a couple teeth on the ring gear.

soo did that
got the ring gear out drive line off everything torqued back down and im rolling front wheel drive for now.

heres pics of the ring gear

now my question is, is it still usable. just get new hardware online and rebolt it up get the pattern set and backlash set and call it good to go.
lemme mention that its only gonna be for a couple months.
im working on finding a fullwidth ford 9 in and getting it in there.

orrrr do i need to drop 250$ on a ring and pinion for an axle i dont even want to keep. im really hoping thats not the case. because i feel like im gonna have to do the same thing to get it on and then back off when i part this axle out.

any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance

since you arent planning on keeping the axle, here's what i would do.

bolt everything back together, throw the carrier in there. spin the ring gear by hand and make sure its getting full contact to the pinion. based on the pics you MIGHT get away with this. if it checks out i'd just slap it together and run it and hope it lasts a couple months

If it was 1 or 2 teeth not in sequence I would say maybe but as a diff guy that is way too many teeth in a row. No way should you run those gears

this is exactly what i was thinking
and im thinking some extra thick oil like 85/140 instead of 80/90

i totally understand what your saying but there are still teeth there.. just not the bottom half of them and it is tapered so id say theres still probly 60% of the teeth..
does this change your opinion?

Yea; I will second that. I push the limits a lot. But that is too much even for me.

Maybe if you were careful on the street only . but to me its not worth the hassel. Lot of extra work if it does not work. Riding on pins and needles if it does work.

It will probably be fine. There are still most of the teeth there, as long as the pinion is making good contact you'll be good. In the future you really only need to grind a little bit of one or two teeth with a dremel. I'm assuming you probably had 3.55s. 3.07s don't need the grinding, not sure about 3.55s. Only had to grind a tiny bit on 4.88s.

i have 4.56s
I wish i would have taken a picture of the interference.
Ill take a pic when i put it back together
but i ground out a tiny bit at a time.

literally started grinding stopped and check if it would come out yet like 20 times.
so i was grinding the least amount possible, granted i was using a flapper disc on a angle grinder not a dremel so the flapper disc took some of a few more teeth then necessary.

and its only gonna be driven on streets, never far.

You did a nice job of it. But still no way.

Not worth the small amount of money saved.

Its fine I had to grind mine just to get the pin in with 4.88s. I pretty sure you have to gring teeth anything over 4.10.

So then if I get new gear, what's your recommendation on how to get them together and get the pin in? I feel like it would need to be grinder down the same amount again.

I had to grind a corner off of one tooth in the front. I am not understanding why you had to grind that many teeth?

Do you have any other pictures?

Totally different.

Thats cool. LIke I said you did a good job. But from a mechanic stand point I have to tell you not to run it. If you know what I mean. Can I promise it will fail? no of course not. Shoot it may last a life time. Who knows.

And yes that other illustration is totally different I agree.
