Default Random noise at idle. Pleae help!!

I just picked up a Cherokee a week or so ago and when it idles it randomly has a hollow knocking sound. Motor has full power and drives fine. We thought maybe the flywheel was broke but we pulled the trans and it was fine. Any ideas?? I can send a video via text of the noise if that helps. 231-632-1555. Thanks

Is this an automatic? If so, you might check the 6 or so bolts that anchor the flywheel to the torque convertor. If some changed something out and didn't torque those down to spec they can work loose and create a similar sound.

I would doubt that being in gear or park would affect it if the bolts were loose. I suppose there is a small chance if the bolts have worked just far enough out that with the Jeep in gear the distance gap between the engine and flywheel shifts and one of the bolts starts hitting something.

Easy inspection though. Just remove the same inspection cover you used when you looked at the flywheel, manually turn the flywheel and with a light look up inside. If the bolts are flush and tight that is not the problem, if the bolts are sticking out, it might be the issue, torque them down.
