8.8 ring gear bolts
got a new r+p for my 8.8 this weekend and was doing a little pre-emptive research. seems I read a lot about ring gear bolts backing out of 8.8's and 9's even after properly cleaning, applying locktite and proper torque is seen on the bolts.
has anyone else had this problem with their 8.8 or 9" rear end?
do a lot of you 'heavy wheelers' check something like this on a regular basis?
I've been thinking of using locktite AND safety wire as a backup, or would that be a little overkill? am I just being paranoid...?

Well I work on diffs for a living and the 8.8 is by far the most common one I work on. I use red loc-tite and torque to spec and have never had one or any back off for any of my customers. Maybe people are using cheap bolts or junk knock off loc-tite.

Thanks Miles! is there a specific brand you install mostly? mine are richmonds. I intend to use all new hardware and bearings, and I only buy real Loctite too. Have you ever seen a carrier out of spec?

I used to use red loctite, then moved to 300 monkey spit about 2 years ago.
I have never had a issue with any bolts coming loose.
Try this....
Put red loctite or what ever brand you like, one drop basically, on the thread in the ring gear (must be clean and dry) and tighten to spec and let dry over night. Next day try to remove. You will see why thats all that needed.
I would say the C8.25 is a larger culprit of backed out RG bolts, myself. Even so though, just some thread locker and they wouldnt.
You would be surprised how many dont use it where its needed. And some even call themselves mechanics...

Thanks man. I have a fair amount of experience removing large bolts (1" and up) secured with red loctite. they gotta be pretty hot and upset before they will come out, but only if the product is used properly. i'll just prep it properly and check after a while.
