Default Regearing axles

Have a d30 front and 8.25 rear 3:55 ratio and I'm lookng on Rustys website and it says I also need a "low ratio carrier" it says required when going from 3:55 to 4:10. Is this really something I need for re gearing?

this is really one of those things you can search. it's been covered many, many times

you need:
D30 ring/pinion
master install
3.73 & up carrier

8.25 ring/pinion
master install

my personal opinion free of charge
4.10 is a waste of effort go deeper. I'd throw in at least 1 locker while you're doing this

^ agreed. Unless you're upgrading to an axle that already have 4.10's (I.E. an 8.8, etc), they're just not worth the cost of re-gearing 2 axles.

I would also agree if you plan to go larger than a 30" tire. 4.56 minimum 31" and over IMO.
But yes the D30 carrier changes at a certain gear ratio. (3.73). So going lower than that requires a new carrier. 8.25 carrier is really high, like 2.73 or something so you are already set there.

I'm running 32s and plan on staying there and I want it back to stock performance. And I heard 4:10 was good for 32s. I also thought of swapping but idk anything that can swap with the front except a tj axle?

other XJ axles. dana 30's from 4cyl XJ's should have 4.10 ratio. or from a TJ
rear can be found in 4.10 but I believe only in a D35. useless

I am going 4:88's. Just because of future mods. PLus the weight of a 32/33" tire. Also the 00xj has an od transmission. So no gearing problems there.

I just bought a carrier for 65$ 3;73 and up (dana 30) Brand new.
