Anyone use one of these? I did some searching and I've seen lots of custom tire carriers but not this. Any experiences with these? Would wheel with?

I always wondered about those. I would use it for the rear though

I'd definitely put it out back... questioning its stability

It would rattle really bad. Detour off-road makes a really nice one that won't rattle.

The one review for it on Amazon says it rocked back and forth while driving.

This thing isn't hinged. If you put it in the back, you'd have to take your entire spare tire off the Jeep every time you wanted to open your rear hatch.

I don't see taking it off being an issue. Unless you have bigger than 31s. I know when I keep my hitch in, it knocks like crazy on bumps so I guess I could see that knocking too

The detour hitch carrier has an adjustable wedge to stop the noise and it folds down so you can get access to the hatch.

I guess I missed that it wasn't hinged, but that actually would be a win for me since I was worried about it smashing the rear window.

As with most things you get what you pay for.

Really? I think it would be a huge pain in the **** to have to remove the spare in the parking lot of the grocery store, Lowes, department stores, Sam's Club, Pull-a-Part and all the other places I use my hatch, and then have to do it again when I get home. Then I'd come out wearing business clothes for work and say, "Ah crap! I forgot to put the damned spare back on when I brought the groceries in last night." Of course I'd be in a hurry, so I would just shove it off to the side and go, but then I would have a flat tire on the way home and wouldn't have a spare, and I would scream out, "Curse you 93 underscore xjcherokee for talking me into this!"

Well I guess you are correct. Today I hauled 25 8 foot roofing panels and a sheet of drywall. Had to leave my hatch open and my seats down. If I had any kind of tire carrier, I would have had to get my dads truck so I will never own a tire carrier of any kind. and my luck too would be iI get a flat miles from home when I forgot to put my spare back on.

I made this one, no rattle, no wobble.

I have one like this. It's a pain. I wish I would have just saved money longer and done it right with a swing out tire carrier.
