Default Rear mounted tire.

I have a 99 xj. Whats the easiest and cheapest way to mount my spare tire on the rear door?

If I am not mistaken, later model XJ's had the option of an OEM rear tire carrier. I would think that finding one at a junk yard would be cheapest.

look at the junkyard for am OEM tire carrier or buy a rear bumper with a swing out...ive also seen guys fab up the fold down bike racks that mount into the hitch and turn those into tire carriers

Can I steal a rear tire mount off a wrangler and bolt it on to my rear door?

The metal is wayy to thin to put one one. the "cheapest" way to do this is go to your local JK and find a blazer and nab it's stock swing away. you will have to fab up a locking mechanism, but it beats spending $900+ on a new swing away.

Wow, I've never seen that before, but I love it. this looks pretty durable, but does anyone know anyone with one installed?

I don't know anyone personally, but google it and you'll find some people that have it, like this:

I have the slimline bumper, which has a similar mount, but is a full bumper all the way around to the fenders. Their products are very well made IMO.

I wouldnt use those recovery points for anything heavy duty. Maybe pulling someone or yourself out of mud or if the XJ goes on its side but probably not a good idea to be pulled from a ditch. Id put a D-ring on the rear receiver for something like that.
