I think I would be alright with a Detroit locker in the rear of my 5 speed XJ but I would like to drive one first to make sure. Soooo, anyone close to WV with this setup, could we set up a test drive???😳

My dad had a TJ with a Detroit in it (5 speed as well). It was ok for daily driving. Every now and then it would "unlock" and send it going into the next lane. From my experience a true locker is better than a lunchbox locker for manual trans.

It’s not a daily driver but I do drive it a lot on country 2 lane roads. I’ve read that lockers are real clunky with manual trannys. I just hate n despise a limited slip and selectable lockers are so dang expensive!

Honestly, after using a true locker, lunchbox locker, factory posi and a trutrac, a selectable is the way to go, even though they arent cheap. Look at OX lockers if you havent.

Have a Spartan locker in the rear of my automatic jeep, and a Detroit locker in the rear of my 6 speed F250. Both of them do great on the street and off-road, I wouldn't trade them for anything else. In my opinion a selectable rear locker is worthless for driving on the street, auto lockers are the way to go.
