Personally I wouldn't run 40's on anything less than d 60's. 4.11's? Are you serious? OP do A LOT more research before you attempt this.

I my buddie has 40" tires on his fully framed 85 4runner with D60 front 114BFF rear. both alloy 35 spline, broke a stock shaft in the D60.. its swaped with a v6 and he has to run 5.38's to run properly on the freeway in over drive. 4.11s wont cut it. I know I wouldn't be happy with 4.11's and 33's lol. read more, LOTS more before you do anything or spend any more money on your cheapest/best setup.....

ignoring all the BS in this thread. here is my take on this.

to run 40's effectively you need.

atleast 1-ton axles
tons of trimming including fabbing new wheel wells front and rear
deep gearing (5.XX +)
frame stiffening very heavy duty steering with hydro assist
a pair of well built driveshafts, like tom woods
a wheelbase stretch will help

I do agree with this. But after all that work wouldn't it be pretty much a buggy? That is a lot of work to make a unit body strong enough to have 40's.
Plus a HUGE price tag and an unknown amount of hours in the garage. Plus a ton of beer.

It'd be sweet don't get me wrong but you gotta do it right and by right I don't mean putting like 20inches of lift and bolt on some 40s its involves tons of fab again tons of fab!!! But more power to ya but do it right or just don't do it at all

I'm serious about needing some assistance. I've got a 00 XJ with 3.5 lift on 33's currently but have 38's, a HP Dana 60, and a 14 bolt ready to go. Always open to suugestions, ie 3 or 4 link front and rear, long arm, benefit for coil overs, etc.

If you are actually doing it to wheel it. 1 tons will be necessary, i.e. dana 60 front, 14 bolt, dana 70 rear etc.
5.38 gears would get you right about stock.
I have a 2001 xj has 9 inch long arm kit from rustys off road has stock 355 gears dana 35 and 30 running 39.5 tsl swampers will spin them on dry pavement no problem I wheel it on 35 no way it could be wheeled on 39.5 but have 4an them on the road for 3 years no issues
