Default Possible front differential mistake

I added the new cool looking differential covers when I was changing the oil in the front end. This may have been a mistake as the drain bolt is the Leading Edge of the differential. I scraped it doing some medium grade rock crawling. Somehow it got loosened to finger tight causing a lot of the oil to drain out.

that should be definite mistake. I just found the Rear leaking for the same reason. Looks like a bad design.

If the bolts were recessed, it would not be a problem.

I just got off the phone to the manufacturer and they had nothing to add oh, they had no parts they had no reports of this happening with anybody else. If you're serious off-roader don't buy these.

What kind of bolt is it? Could you replace it with a recessed set screw style to get it out of harms way? Not that you SHOULD have to do that, just offering ideas.

Probably best to just replace the bolt and throw some JB weld on it too, that way you won't run into the problem again. You will have to remove the cover to drain the diff, but so does everyone else. Good call on sharing this though, design flaws should always be made known.

Part of the reason that I bought these so that I would not have to take off the diff cover to change the oil. Maybe this makes me lazy. The JB Weld seems pretty extreme

I found some drain bolts there are half as high and have actual magnets in them instead of pretend magnets. The shiny one is the new one

I will try them and see how it works out, if this is a failure I'll try something with a hex that is recessed.

The first picture shows the scrape damage
