Default NOT soo serious rear 4 link?

Free XJ shell to me. Messing around with as little $ into it as possible.

Share me your not soo serious rear 4 link setups That Still Work

Gonna be a 2wd build for street and sand fun, not serious at all.
Liberty 8.25 which i new the factory setup wouldnt make for a simple seap so im leaning towards a very inexpensive rear 4-link

I have roughly 6 sets of these factory jk control arms. Modifying a pair of them for front long arms with either a 3rd upper link or the radius arm route.

My thought is too potentially utilize the 4 other control arms and make for a parallel 4 link setup with a track bar. Plasma cut up some scrap to make the 2 upper link mounts for the rear axle and call it a day.

I'm aware of the geometry calculators and link separation and importance of those for a triangulated setups but im not feeling that serious about this.

share me your functional work if you have it

Make link seperation at axle end 40% of tire diameter and run it. The rest pretty much doesnt matter.

Id probably fab links over useing jk arms.

Id probly triangulate uppers from center to frame and just run lowers straight or where ever they land. Thats my plan anyways but i havent yet got much h passed thinking about it.

40%!?

Let's haggle and go with potentially less than 20%?

I understand some of the staples for setup (if i were more critical i would take the 25% rule and run as close to that as i could.

After sleeping on it I think the plan is gonna be to knock the liberty coil mounts and upper y link off. Plate the factory lower control arm mounts. Match their separation value from center of axle tube for the top mounts and then start figuring out some type of rear x-member

Based on my caveman math the center point is middle of the 2 top bolts for the old upper ylink mount.

So this will be an upper Y link setup.

The jeep side is undetermined yet but for now. Factory lower control arm mounts and this link bracket will do

White boards are fun...

Soo 8.5" at axle separation and looking like 3.5" for separation at the unibody.

no bull$hit ive been staring at this rear end for hours. I made a simple "same length jig" for link mount placement reference and cut out the lower link mounts from 3x3 3/16's wall box tube.

my self diagnosed ADhD prevents me from scouring the internet any longer as there isnt much for how to's on the Y link rear setup. All the suggested techniques for triangulated 4 links though.

It's one of those - let's just sleep on this kinda moment I suppose

I don't know why but this upper link setup is like quicksand for me...

Decided on lower link mount location for the unibody then crafted another pair of modified jk lower control arms.

Link separation at the axle is 8.375 and link separation at the unibody is likely only 3.75( I say likely because it's not setup Yet but that's as high up into the floor pan I can get it without cutting out the floor).

The difference in link mount separation between the axle and unibody means even if i did equal length arms it wont keep the pinion equal to the ground during suspension travel. I have to dive back into the suspension math to figure out an ideal target length for the upper now i suppose.

Soo 4 of these steinjager 1.25" joints were free 2 RH and 2 LH. Me being resourceful I cut up some old long arms and salvaged the threaded bung(s) then repurposed these LH joints as fixed flex joints. The threaded ends fit in the scrap tubes I had oh soo nicely!

I mapped out the mounting points for the upper Y-link to match the lower arm length then squared everything up.

Cut down the center tube and added some triangulation gussets

Tossed the whole assy in for mockup and everything has fit thus far surprisingly well.

Ran out of time tonight before i could tack the upper mounts into place but im looking forward to the next time i get out here and cycle the suspension some.
