I agree, 31's would be better. Another thing u might want to consider is ur gear ratio when going to taller tires. I have a 3" lift with 31's & 410 gears. With a 1" transfer case drop kit, high steer crossover kit & 15x10 outlaw 2 wheels with a 3.5 backspacing (I think that's the right bs measurement). My problem is, my motor went south on me. Looking for a replacement or possible 350 stuff in my cherokee. If I do a stuff, I don't think my drivetrain would hold up to the hp or torque.

Diesel I am in Houston. I really want to stuff a diesel in to my XJ someday but that is a whole can of worms. I have found a thingy called tiregate.com it is a receiver hitch attachment that acts as a spare tire holder and what no that plugs in to your receiver hitch. I am wondering if anyone has seen one or used one?

Right on. Was just gonna say I seen a good engine at a JY by me... 85k on it. I just didn't have the money. And I don't need an engine! Lol

Yea diesel in an xj has been a pipe dream for me for a while. I may make it happen one day. Almost bought a Mercedes 300TD last year to do a swap, but after much research decided the OM.617 didn't have what I want.

If I ever do it it will prolly be the VW 1.9 TDI, lots o power, light weight and great mileage!!!!

A man can dream... til he wakes up.

Depends on the temperature. I put 1 Gallon of coolant (Not 50/50) in and top off with water.

Finished front end today. OME springs and shocks and JKS adjustable sway bar connectors. It went really smooth. My biggest problem was punching out the old bolt/stud that has to be removed for the JKS stuff to go on. Read on line somewhere to use a ball joint press lucky I had one. so they popped right out. One of the old shocks would not loosen up very well. I pulled out a knuckle and an air gun and made short work of it.

I am a huge fan of OME springs and shocks now. rides nice. The little wobble i felt around 45 is gone. SO off to alignment Monday.

How was your Friday?

If I replace Ball joints, what else do I have to replace in process of replacing ball joints?

I did a ball joint job on a ford and you have to replace axle seals at same time. I am just interested in same kind of problems.

Lol. Ur all over the place! Cooling tire carriers rock slider steps! Jk

Glad you like the OME stuff I'm looking to out their products on my dd did you use their shocks?

On the cooling note. I wouldn't replace the radiator unless its leaking. Just flush it out good while its in the jeep. Then when its out run a hose thru it for a while til it comes out nice and clean. But DO replace water pump tstat rad cap and fan clutch. And therm housing if its real bad. Use gaskets not RTV unless you really like the stuff...

And replacing the ball joints... All you should need are the joints unless you want to go ahead and replace the unit-bearings and axle u-joints while it's apart.

That'd be ideal.

I used OME "Kit." I bought my "kit" form 4x4 group buy, it came with everything they said it would but I would not buy form them again in long run cost more. OME leaf's dont come with bushings so you have to buy them unless the provider you are buying form includes them in there kit. I am using OME shocks, they have the single stud for the factory mount, so no need for an adapter kit. From what I can tell all OME springs will lift your XJ some, so to use their shocks you might have to lift it a tiny bit if you do not replace all the springs. I have found it now corners better and stops tons better and no wobble. My shocks were shot, they had no rebound left and I could compress them with no effort by hand.

I had a blown out suspension before and lots of new parts now. My only comparison is bad to high end. Might be several other spring and shocks that are nice. Mine are super nice.

Ok so when I replaced my springs I noticed (after I replaced them) my bump stops are gone. (I know surprise surprise) can I use a universal replacement that is a little too fat and a hockey puck on the bottom? With a 2" lift is longer bump stops needed? Are factory bump stops lengths ok?

One more thing? Steering dampener, the one on my XJ look like the one they put on it in 2000. I have read all over that they are not needed, but then again I have read sway bars are not needed.

I like my sway bars I do not do serious wheeling, I understand what the sway bar does and a little better handling on the road is worth a little loss of articulation.

Do I replace steering stabilizer? Do I just get a good OEM replacement for less money or do I spend the OME or the like for a fancy one?

Any opinions?

Replace it with an OEM. No need to spend a lot of money on a stabilizer.

My trail Jeep hasn't had a stabilizer in 7 years. My dd has a brand new one on it.
