New XJ owner
Texas, so no salt on the road. I think the front ones might come out and the shackle bolt is easy to get to at least so I can swap out the spring. I am going to have to look in to replacing the shackle soon. I have not looked in to how to change that out
The shackle is in bad shape. I know I need to replace it but I am sure that bolt is not coming out. The shackle itself is flaking off in huge pieces of rust. If I do not replace the shackle now just attach the leaf spring to the old one, is it that hard to just drop the leaf from the rear shackle and then attack the shackle mounting point once I have more money for parts and a new set of time?

No more difficult than it'll be the first time. You just have to get all the weight off the back of the Jeep. You basically need to let the rear axle hang so when you unbolt the leaves from the shackle the leaf will fall out of the way.

Hey man just thought if let you know that the 00 and 01 cherokees have the 0331 head and just make sure your not losing coolant mysteriously or have a milky lookin oil. Just thought you'd like to know this cause i didn't find out till after i bought my 00 XJ and now i always check the coolant and oil more careful haha
I have not started the suspension change yet. I did not order enough new bushings for the leaf. Morrision on line help was not helpful the first time I called. The second time they found the part I really needed and agreed to ship it out 2nd day air for free. They ended up being good. I will do the work this week. Until then I keep spraying PB blaster and Sea Foam everyday.
I will keep you guys updated and with pics.

So both of you that have been reading and helping me out. I had a weird wobble at 45 MPH ish. I have read about death wobble and I seem to have had more of a "cold" than a death sentence. I bought 4 new tires and wheels "thanks Stryker" off of CL for a great price. (250) that seemed to fix most of the wobble issue. I will get an alignment done as soon as I replace springs and shocks. I am wondering where to take jeep for a alignment, Firestone mom and pop shop? Will most shops align my jeep even if it might need ball joints or something?
