if you want cheap gears get a set of axles from a 4 cylinder jeep cherokee they have 4 tens sometimes , you can find them for cheap beaing a 88 you may not have to get a sye

Don't forget the drop pitman arm. 4.5" lift here, no SYE, no problems, yet! True, if you work on your diffs, install everything! If you can't afford it, wait. Your mpg won't be noticeable. Steering should be priority. I ran 31's and did not noticed the mpg. Regeared when I got 35's.

Don't forget the drop pitman arm. 4.5" lift here, no SYE, no problems, yet! True, if you work on your diffs, install everything! If you can't afford it, wait. Your mpg won't be noticeable. Steering should be priority. I ran 31's and did not noticed the mpg. Regeared when I got 35's.
OP, your stating things in a "have to" fashion. You do not have to do a regear and locked diff!!! Those two things are very preference (and money) based! The things that really need your immediate attention are the steering and driveline:
Lift it: make sure it drives really well. If not, make the necessary steering and driveline changes. THEN worry about gears (still very minimal issue on 31's or even 32's cause it's your DD and not a trail rig) and a locker.
Spend the money where it NEEDS to go: making sure there are no driveline vibes and steering issues! Idk, my two Lincoln's..
