Have you looking in your diffs to see whats going on? I bet the spider gears are probably toast. I wouldn't trust a shop that didn't open the diff to figure out what was wrong, they will say both axles are bad so charge you out the butt for repairing them.

Here's my .02
ford 8.8 out of late 90's explorers. They come with lsd, rear disc brakes and various ratio's. Require new spring perches and shock mounts, kits available and welding require
d30 with matching gear ratio for the rear


Or go big and 1-tons

If by fit right in you mean a bit over 6" wider and you have to shorten the driveshaft.

What I meant was the leaf perches are only a half inch wider, but yes it bolts right in... weither it was logical for his situation is another story!
