If you convert to an open cooling system then yes, you can use anything you want as an overflow bottle.

Be proud of what you did. This is a snorkle that goes through the cowl or a cowl snorkle.
I like the look of this snorkel! Much more acceptable than ARB's. Who makes it?

Anyone run a tube straight from the throttle body into the cowl and put a cone filter in there? I know it's tight but can it be done?

yes it's been done, but why would you want to? That would suck to have to take off the cowl every time you wanted to change/clean the filter. Plus it is WAY more susceptible to water/moisture in the cowl than in the engine bay.

Yea I was just thinking about that when I was on the can where I do most of my thinkin. Rain isnt a problem because it doesn't rain here but I do like splashing. Looks like i'm getting the old stock airbox out of storage and doing it the right way. Thanks.

You just trim your filter a little to make it work and it uses another stock rubber tube, the one that connects to the throttle body just trimmed a little

yea...that was a miscalculation on my part. Ended up having to trim a bit out of the filter right above the pipe...

Permatex RTV Black, but any RTV or silicone will work. I just had that handy from my diff fluid change.
