Again, it's $20 vs. $200 for the same benefit...

outa curiosity what would be the point of keeping the stock air box in the routing to under the cowel?
wouldnt it make more sense to remove the airbox for added space and route straight from the throttlebody?
correct me if im wrong cuz id like to do this upgrade long term and geta second battery.

Not a drop. I've driven though a literal monsoon (while stuck in traffic) and taken it though massive, well over the cowl splash puddles before. Airbox was bone dry when I checked it afterwards.

[QUOTE=dukie564;1226557]Uh...you need an airfilter. This cost me $15 and I can use the stock high-capacity filter.[/qoute]
uhh well if theres an air filter under you cowel
then why would you need you stock air box??
take out the stock air box ( air filter is still under the cowel ) and route the tube from the hole in the firewall to the throttle body. and boom you got an airfilter filtering air and your stock air box ( the black box in the front driver side under the hood ) is gone and out of the way leaving room for many different things.. air compressor, inverter, second battery.

I don't have a filter inside the cowl. Just an open hole.
you could, and it's been done before (on the left hand side). However i see a few issues with this method:
1) you have to remove the cowl every time you want to change/clean the air filter.
2) it will be a LOT louder in the cab since the inlet for the a/c system is also in the cowl
3) There is a high possibility of water being able to soak the filter and render it useless, or even allow water into the engine.
4) You need to keep the filter away from the "open" grating in the cowl cover to prevent the filter from getting wet when it rains/snows/ etc.
Using the stock airbox when possible allows easy changes to the filter element, as well as providing a safety net in case water actually does make it out of the cowl and into the intake tube.

the cowl attachment, can you use anything else?
The reason I ask Is I have some 4" pvc in the garage and and a 4"to 3" reducer that i can use to go into the box.
I was thinking maybe a dryer vent attachment and this way I would have something to screw into.
Also thanks for the write up, great idea
