Default Manual hubs... I want!

I just picked up an ‘89 Cherokee XJ. I am wanting to install locking hubs & am not sure what I need. I've searched products & still don't know if I need a "conversion kit".
I was on a chat with Quadratech & was told the $150 Warn hubs would Bolt right on, but I doubt that is true though it would be nice. I'm not new to this type vehicle as I also have built an awesome 1975 International Scout II that I've had for 25+ years. New knowledge here is Greatly appreciated!

I have never heard of anybody wanting this. So I looked on Quadratec and they do have a kit. It is not $150.

Unless I am missing something, i have no idea how a bolt on hub would convert to lockouts

Yeah Quadratec is just plain wrong about a $150 hub. This kit is the only one I'm aware of. It is interesting but if it only saves 1 mile per gallon it would take a LONG time to pay for it's self. Here is a youtube video of this kit being installed.

Last time I checked those kits where over $1200 dollars. If you want to get rid of your vacuum actuator just permanently lock it, there are several threads on how to do that.

Yeah^^. depending on which transfer case you have, there are options that are really cheap. Like free.

what is your motivation for this conversion by the way?

$150 warn hubs WILL bolt right no....but that's all they will do.

For the conversion, you'd need a bunch of other parts, at the least new shafts.

I did that conversion on the truck in my avatar, and it changed everything from the ball joints out, plus the stubshaft and a lot of internal t-case parts.

Gained me about 2-3 mpg and LOTS of wear & tear..........

Honestly I would recommend a Dana 44 if you had to have manual hubs, but then your going to need a matching 9" in the rear due to width.

Your money would be better spent on a 1/4" 90 tooth ratchet and a ratcheting wrench set to pull your front driveshaft.

for the money you will spend, i would just put in full width axles from an old ford. 44/9 would put you right in the ballpark of the cost of the conversion, and half the time to install.
