I think ones idea of a dog and anothers are completely different on here. mines a 4 banger with 4.10's, manual, and 31's and I don't think its a dog. its not winning any races but its no dog. guess its all on what your used to.

It all depends on tranny final drive ratio, axle gearing and tire size. A dog isn't necessarily about speed. After all, a Jeep should be set up to pull and put power to the trail. If your gas mileage is junk because your rpm is low due to your gearing, and she won't pull...it's a dog.

Ill agree with ya. Take my CJ5 for instance it has a granny gear 1st and 3.31 in the axles. I never use 1st gear on the street cause the rpms jump too high. But off-road, put it in first and let off the clutch, it crawls! So in short gear selection is a lot like tire selection, choose what works best for you depending on what you use it most for.

Hows that treat you getting over the passes... mines doggish all the way up hwy70, mainly any hills
on 31's, stock 8.25, 4.0l, - has no problems once its up there but seems like it doesnt breathe too well? Anything similar for you?

make a CAI with a heat shield. You wouldnt believe the difference it makes when you're underpowered. I know the difference with mine was instant. just my 2 cents.
