keep the 31's or bigger....
i got a 3" lift with 31s right now. the front ones are bald so i need new ones before winter. I could just get 2 31s and save some money, but i kinda want bigger tires. 32's maybe 33s. i was looking at the 33s and noticed i could get them 10.5 which my 31s are and 12.5. think i would need a bigger rim? how big can i go before i gotta re gear or axel swap i think i should be alright with 33s. give me some input

You will be completely fine with the 33's on the D35. I run 35" Mud Grapplers on a D35 and off-road/DD the **** out of mine with no problem. I'm not sure if you have trimmed the fenders yet on your XJ yet, but with the amount of lift you have your going to have to if you want to fit 33's. Also, you can fit 12.5 on the stock rim.

Ideally, 1"spacer front, 1" longer shackle in back with shims, a TC drop or an SYE, and minor trimming of wells... Or leave it where it is and chop the heck outta the wells to stuff the 33s. If you disconnect the front sway, you'll need to chop more. Longer lower LCAs might help for wheelwell centering since with stock arms those 33s will wanna dig in to the back..
Avoid blocks unless you like axle wrap IMHO.

I would regear for 33's, not for 32's. 32's where tolerable for me, 33's it was a dog. But to each there own.
Don't put a block in the back. plenty of options, blocks suck. for 1 inch, longer shackle or relocation brackets are the best 2 options IMHO.
Pick the tire that will be better for you, then deal with whats needed to make it work. making 32's fit when you want 33's sucks as you will still want the 33....

15 x 8 wheels are fine for 12.50 tires
15 x 7 are fine for 10.50 tires its a toss up between the 2 for 11.50 tires, the 8'' being the better option.
with 33's youll lose response and mpg, but gain ground clearence, while sacraficing flex.

It all depends how much you want to trim to fit the bigger tires. I know somone that had 35s on just a 3" lift and it never rubbed on the trail and full flex. Also didn't have a front or rear sway bar
