Default JK Dana 44 ABS on XJ

Was wondering about this swap being viable to keep ABS, The JK Dana 44 has ABS as does my “rare” Freedom Sport XJ. Wanted to eventually swap out the D35 for a D44, think this would be a good swap?

Why would you want to keep the ABS? It's terrible.

To answer your question, yes you could do it just by using the JK sensors on the axles and keeping the rest of your system intact. ABS has some advantages and some disadvantages. One thing the JKs have to cancel a major disadvantage is to turn it off in low range. A simple switch would take care of that

it hasn’t been too bad and wanna keep all the systems otherwise intact, if anything id keep it on a switch like the post below yours suggests for low range, I know it’s not gonna help me much on the ice here in Alaska but on the sunny days in the summer it’s not that bad.

Not required for any inspections I have heard of, increases your braking distance on dry roads and is even worse off-road and in slick conditions.

If it is disconnected, the brake light comes on.....hence failure

I wholeheartedly disagree with your other assessments about how well it works

The brake light comes on or the abs light? If that's your only issue then you can remove the brake light bulb. I am not a fan of abs at all, I disable it on any vehicle I own, never been in a situation where I thought I would benefit from it but I have been in several situation where it was a disadvantage, same goes for traction control on the newer vehicles, useless garbage in my experience.

We are aware that the KJ axle is set up for coil springs, right?
That's another whole can of worms for anyone who can't figure out driveline angles and fabricate....

Good point I completely missed that he was taking about the rear axle, the axle width and wheel bolt patterns would be different as well.

LOL. Yep. ABS is a minor issue by comparison.

I was very much against ABS until I was flying down a gravel logging road in my Jeep, hit a slight turn and started sliding towards the side of a cliff. ABS clicked on before I had a chance to react and 100% prevented me falling off the cliff. Perhaps it’s because I’m more of a trail rider but ABS In Jeeps isn’t really that sensitive compared to other cars... I’ve put my Tacoma in similar situations and the traction control + ABS make it almost impossible to drive.

That might be true for a very small percentage of people but in an emergency situation most people would lock their brakes up without abs. It's proven to be safer for the masses.

You can stop quicker with abs, on dry pavement or in the snow, it's been proven, I can post the videos if you want. It can be dangerous off road as well.

I think you meant to say "without" but sure show me a video of an experienced driver on a closed course in a non emergency situation stopping faster and then convince me that the masses can all do the same in an actual emergency situation.
