After suffering some excessive heat issues on the trail, I have decided it's time to install some vents. A long, hot search of the local junkyards yielded no goodies so I decided to go aftermarket. I bought two ABS scoops from AutoZone, some high adhesion plastic primer, and rattle cans of matching paint and clear.

Prep sanded with a 320 grit sponge, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, and masked the aluminum mesh inserts. Ready for primer.

I was looking at theses also before I found some
Old datsun louvers for cheap. I haven't installed them yet though. When I was looking at the ones you got I noticed no one usually goes the hood scoop route. So I'm very interested to see what these look like after they are installed.

I'm going to install the scoops backwards, with the openings facing the cowl to draft the hot air out. I noticed as well that nobody really does scoops... Hopefully they will look good and pull some air.

Just curious but how much heat are you seeing under hood?

On steep difficult trails, 95 degree ambient temps, I was running a consistent 235 degrees. Stalled once, and gave a couple hard starts while hot. Figured CPS was a good possibility so I'm swapping it and also trying to take care of any possible heat soak issues.

They have preinstalled 3m tape around the perimeter on the bottom. Going to lay them out, trace them out on the hood, cut my holes as big as possible and stick 'em on... looks really promising. They have a nice big vent with some decent looking aluminum mesh covering the opening.

Not thinking those would vent to well crawling on a trail.

Well, we'll see... Hot air rises, so it should flow up and out. And with the openings to the rear, any forward movement of the Jeep should help draft the air out as well. Perhaps not as efficient as a louver style vent like the LeBarons, but hopefully it will do the trick.
