Quote: I just bought two of the autozoo ones today and plan on putting them on this weekend. Not sure if I'm going to paint them yet or not since the black on white will match the way my grille is on the SE.
Leave em black

I'm gonna get em from auto zone too. Do y'all do anything else to secure em like silicone? Or just the tape

i put silicone around the inside edge on mine just for a little added piece of mind. ill try and put some pictures of mine on later. i got rid of the white and painted them black and got them mounted this past weekend. also another note my metal mesh inserts that come on them started to fall off. the hot glue that holds them on started melting. i managed to save both of them and plan to put them back on with something like silicone or liquid nails. just something to keep an eye on.

Mine are on, painted em with black dupli color bed armor and left the mesh alone. They look absolutely fantastic. Thanks for the idea. I did put some RTV around the inside though from underneath the hood for a little added security. Pics to follow

Had to show mine off. Best mod I made so far. I also did a cowl snorkel. With these two mods my XJ runs at 200 degrees all day on the trails.

Finally got mine installed. Left them black because they just looked good in a test fit.

Those look great. Do you think water will be even less of an issue since rain can't really enter right into the opening? I'm debating whether to get something like this or the GenRight ones like these: Link

thanks. as far as temps it seems a little better i'll know more when i go wheelin this weekend, that will be the true test. not too worried about rain. it would have to poor pretty hard for any amount of rain to really get to the engine and even then theres not a lot there that it could mess with.

I did a quick mod a few months ago that drastically changed my temps. I kinda want to reduce the amount of water that gets in there, and have been considering scoops. I can get measurements tomorrow, but do you think something would fit over these?

I was thinking of making some vents like these. Probably a different shape but similar to this. I was thinking of the idea that either the pieces you cut out...or go buy some sheet metal and cut it to the shape of the vent...then put magnets on one side of the cut out and on a rainy day just slap them on. Of course it's just an idea...

Yeah, I didn't want to risk messing the cuts up by doing a different shape, although I thing rounded corners would make it look better. And that magnet idea is nice, but you'd have to extend them a little to fully fit over, or just pay them off for a decent seal.
