HIDs? I really need the word of the wise
Okay I need some help. I have a 2000 jeep Cherokee sport 4.0 I6 (just to be specific) and I really wanna get rid of these weak stock headlights. I know I need to purchase lenses as well as wire harness, balasis, and xenon hid bulbs. What I'm really having trouble about is what kit works best due to the annoying situation. I can get balasis and wiring cheap it's the lenses and bulb I need help. 6000k and up

A lot of good information and links in this thread.
All you really need are the housings, the HIDs and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the harness.
Check out ddmtuning.com for the HIDs, they have good prices and good products
And just go to eBay or something like that for Autopal housings. Avoid anything saying diamond or crystal cut

Unless your using a true hid housing, or projectors your going to get some beam scatter, h4 hella's e-codes with the harness, and 90/130 bulbs will be much better, my setup cost me about $175 using parts from Amazon.

Hi from Adam in NYC.
I just got an alternative to HID headlights for my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. In NYC, been stopped twice for the HIDs. Seems that they are too bright with the stock H4 replacement housings for incandesant lamps found on selling on the street.
I installed a pair of Truck-Lite LED headlights that are DOT approved, the only ones on the market that can state that. The original round designs were installed in military vehicles overseas. Bombproof, burnout proof, shatterproof. they also have the rectangular H6054 suitable for my 1996 model.
How well do they work? Well, I had to try them first in several varying weather conditions. They work great especially in bad weather. Fog , heavy rain, dark country roads.

I like the diamond cut beams. I just think they look cool. I've had several sets in Peterbilts, Jeeps and on a Harley.
The problem is they scatter light at best and at worst are almost useless at night.
I have a set in my Xj right now, projector look alikes, and will be replaced by a better set of DOT or Ecode housings in the near future.
If you go the H4 route don't skimp on bulbs and DON'T SKIMP ON THE HARNESS!
Cheap looks cheap, quality will light your way.

If you go hid do a proper projector retrofit, Otherwise buy some E-code h4 housings, upgrade the headlight harness and throw in some decent bulbs !
This is what my lights look like with Autopal E codes, and a putco harness I still have not added good bulbs
