I am looking at getting an HID kit (
Amazon.com: DNA, HL-S-7X6-P-CL+HID-DT-H4-43K+BLS, 7X6 H6054 CHROME CONVERSION PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS+H4 4300K HID BULBS+THIN BALLAST: Automotive
) It says that it does not include instructions and professional installation is recommended. I'm no slouch with stereos, lighting, or car wiring in general, but how tough is HID wiring? I've done some reading and know I have to remove the headlight delay switch, but most of the stuff I've found is how people fabbed up proper projectors. I know they're illegal in vehicles that weren't originally equipped with them which is why I want to do this the right way.
So how much is there to these things? Am I better off with a good H4 conversion? To the guys who have 4300K projectors, how do you like them?
In the meantime I will search some more

Now I found this place: http://www.carhidkits.com/6000k-hid-kit-183.html
They have an install video with a 94 XJ and it seems very easy. But are HIDs worth it? $80 is a good chunk of change for me. I drive at night a lot, especially in the winter when the snow's flying. I hate my halogens' low beams, I can't see a thing with oncoming traffic. But the high beams are fine.

H4 with the relays are good enough for most people. If you want to read up on hids and the truth about them http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/20-...out-there.html
first thing I did to my xj is instal the 6k HIDs you do need a new headlight housings they run for about $40. I recommend a new relay only $5. all in all the difference is uncomparable you can see everything on the road way ahead. I strongly recommend them. instal is easy

ok so heres my take on this, yes you will have more light but... alot of it useless as it just goes off into space. and if you drive in snow alot it will be maddening because it will light up all the snow coming at you which makes it way harder to see the road. i drive a semi and i drive at nite i have seen all kinds of hids out there most are blinding to an oncoming car but when that vehicle passes you its amazing how little light is actually on the road. Those "projectors" you posted a link are total crap there nothing more than a magnifying glass in front of the bulb.( I bought them too, i was stupid and didnt know any better)someone on here posted a link to a true set of projectors that looked reasonable and were true projectors prior to seeing them the only other ones i had seen were 1000 bucks. ill see if i can find the link
read that link posted up 2 posts from mine it will give you alot of insight on lighting
ok heres the link
http://norcalmr2.com/pegasus/
i have no clue if there even still in business id do some googleing to see if you can figure out if there reputable but you can at least see the difference between a "fake" projector and a real one

Knowing what I know now I'm gonna pass. I think I'll just go the H4 path. Is there anything other than housings and an upgraded harness that I need?

I just ordered my H4 housings and putco harness. Four years of crappy XJ lighting is enough lol. And I don't want to deal with the snow issues.

Here's a link that I followed when I did mine. I ordered mine off of Amazon and the bulbs came with the housings. They were about 36+ plus shipping I believe. I got the euro style which is a more clearer lense. One of my favorite mods so far.

Also here's a link to the ones that I went with. I went with these because the bulbs came with it and also IMO I think they look better than the stock style. Something different.

These are the ones I got. $30 for the pair, they're the highest rated, and the only ones that I can use my Prime stuff on. Otherwise I wanted to get the ones with the LED halos but they didn't have ratings.
