Default HELP! Upside down steering stabilizer?

So lately I have been tryin to figure out my DW problem. When I installed the steering stabilizer from Rustys my uncle (an engineer) suggested we install it upside down so the shaft is closest to the passenger side tire. Should I take it off and flip it around to help stop oscillation? Please help me out.

DW is not cuased by the steering stabilizer. It is usually caused by a part that has to much slop in it, such as the trackbar, tie rod ends, ball joints , misalignment, or even as much as an unbalanced wheel or tire that is worn weird.

You could try flipping it but I doubt it will help your problem. I suggest laying on the ground in front of the jeep while some one turns the wheels lock to lock and look for any components that appear to have excess slop.

^x2 stabilizer doesnt cause DW, if anything it hides the underlying issue that causes DW

I've recently installed a new trac bar and a new TRE at the pitman arm. my other TRE's are good, and I'm just trying everything to get rid of this stupid DW. Almost about to pull the trigger on one of those dual steering stabilizers. I know it just masks the problem, this has been driving me nuts.

Fix the root. A properly functioning XJ steering setup doesn't need any stabilizer at all.

Have you searched for solutions to DW? Stock XJ or lifted? Could be steering box, box spacer, bad tires, control arms bushings, TRE's, ball joints (easy to notice), track bar or alignment.

Yes, they could be. And they have to be pressed in and out.

Its rather hard to help when you give us zero info about the XJ other than it has DW with a new steering stabilizer.

Personal experience fixing mine and helping others in person: 50% is related to the track bar; 40% is TRE's and that last 10% is a wild card

Almost all of the questions you have asked could have been found using google. Just type in whatever you want to know followed by "cherokee forum". You will get more answers that way than from this thread. And if you still cant figure out, then come back to this thread and we will help ya out. And dont forget to post info about your jeep and when this occurs. What speed does it happen at? Does it start when you hit a bump? Does it stop after a certian speed?

Im not tryin to bust your ba**s or anything. We just need more info.

And by the way, Welcome to the forum! Post a pic of the Jeep.

I see this is a really old thread but maybe I can shine some light to someone else. If you've ever replaced the steering servo tie rod and move the steering rack to just the right angle, then you'll notice the stabilizer can be in an almost "upside down" position and it starts dumping the only oil it will ever have onto the ground. I just installed a new Fox 2.0 IFP stabilizer, and being nitrogen compressed, the ONLY WAY for installation is actually reverse therefore having 0 drip whatsoever. It really just depends on the stabilizer but I assume it works the exact same way as reversed would??

If the oil leaks out...the shock was no goo din the first place....

A steering stabilizer is just a shock with lighter valving....and it will work right side up or upside down.
