there are no shavings on the plug and no noises while driving.... Gonna be getting ahold of the shop tomorrow but i guess i'd just like some perspective opinions...

Ring and pinion is getting worn or it's set up with too much backlash.

if it was being worn funny wouldn't the gear oil have a sparkle to it?

X2. Its probably either worn or not set up right. Check the pattern on the gears, see what it looks like.

Probably. You could check your pinion nut tightness, the pinion preload factors into it also.

well like i said i'm going to be calling the shop tomorrow and setting up a time for them to take a closer look (id rather just wait a day and have them look, over popping its myself now and then spending $8 in gear oil just to have it popped the next day) and we'll just go from there. But from the sounds of it I should be looking at them to fix their mistake....

it could be a sloppy locker. My friends D60 (I dont remember what brand locker) can rotate the pinon 1/4 turn

Idk I have 4.88s locked in mine and have about the same amount of play and my gear pattern is perfect. Im pretty sure its got to do with the ratio the pinion spins further to contact the pinion.

I dunno, I have 5.13's with a Detroit in the rear of my Silverado, and 5.13's with a spool in the front of that truck. It doesn't have much play at all, and its set up right.

There's no way that is just the ring /pinion backlash. It would make a horrible noise while driving and not last long at all. I would attribute that to the locker, how ever I've set up a grizzly and they are supposed to be tight. My guess is loose bolts on the bearing caps. Let us know what the shop says.

Some lockers are very sloppy, depends on the number of teeth they have. The Detroit lockers made now are all soft lockers which use a finer tooth count. The older ones are really bad which I'm sure some of us can remember. I have yet to intall a grizzly locker so I can not say what style they were modeled after.

Well i talked to a few of the drag guys at my shop and called a few gear heads and just asked around and given the input from the forum its more than likely just slop.

I got ahold of the shop that did the install and we're gonna take a look at it on monday just to be sure. However its the facts that there are no noise, unusual fluid color or chunks that's making me think that its just slop.

I will update after we take a look

It appears that all is well, the massive slop is mostly from my locker and the shafts. Backlash is tight and everything looks A-ok.
