Default End link bushing touch coil.

Hey guys!

Im having issues with my 99 XJ, stock end links bushings are off center and contacting with the coils, despite replacing them with new bushings. My Jeep is lifted approximately 3 inches, but I vaguely recall it being the same before the lift. The grommet on the old bushing would wedge in the bushing facing the front end of the car. With the new bushing the exact opposite would happen and would wedge in the bushing faceing the rear end and rubs on the coil. Do i need extended end links? Any insights or solutions appreciated!

Top nut was torqued to 27ft lbs

First image new bushing.

Second image old bushing (notice wedge from grommet

The cupped washers really help hold the grommets in place, but yes, longer links would flatten the angle between the anti-sway bar and the centerline of the link, reducing the tendency to push out the bushing in that direction.

thanks for the info jim! I was looking at JKS quick disconnects. But really wouldn’t use the quick disconnects much. Any brand or model fixed extended links you would recommend? One thing that seems off to me is the fact that pre lift at stock height it had the issue. Is there any other thing that could be causing this besides short end links?

A new set of bushings, along with the proper concave washers, would probably help. That bushing is significantly deformed from what they look like new. As said above, the concave washers help keep the bushing from pushing out like yours is. Here in The States at least, you can buy a kit of just the bushings and washers.

Given your location, this make work well for you if you decide to get longer links...

Then you're tightening them down too much. Way too many threads exposed in that first picture if those are new bushings...

yeah, I definitely felt it was too tight but I followed FSM torque spec.

I wish there was an easy, hard-and-fast rule to tell you when to ignore the manual and when to follow it, but this appears to be one of those times that the manual is wrong. I tighten until the bushings squeeze tight to the concave washers.

Thats a bummer! Im new at all this and just learning, FSM seamed like an easy way out lol. Any chance caster could cause this? I have stock lca’s. Just measured from bolt to bolt of the stock lca and got 40cm 15,75” on both sides.

Unfortunately you have lifted it and the stock sway bar is not designed to be working at that height. Had it happen to me to back when I had only a 3" lift. Now at the height I am now, it is out of the question. You can lengthen your link a little to help, but you will have a limit determined when the sway bar will hit the inner fender. as far as touching the coil, fix your castor angle and that will disappear

Forget the torque value and tighten them up like Jim advised.
