Electrical Pass Thru
What is the best way to pass thru from the engine compartment to the cab? I need to go through with light bar switch wiring, probably on the pass side (closest to battery).
I want to use the factory fog light switch. I would use the factory fog light wiring, but it doesn't seem to work. I installed a Putco headlight harness a while back, and the headlights worked fine from the get go. I didn't have any of the fog light relay problems I have read about. So I don't really want to mess with the factory fog wiring. When I got the jeep the factory fog lights were missing. The switch, relays, and wiring are all present, so I am pretty sure it was installed. My first thought was to wire from the factory fog light connector in the engine bay, but I get no voltage to it with the switch on. I found a fog light switch mating connector at the junkyard, so I can wire to the switch. I just need to get the wires to it.
Drill a hole and install grommets, or is there a cleaner way? Don't want to drill holes if I don't have to.
If it matters, it is a 2001 Sport 4 door.
Thanks for any assistance. I searched on "Electrical pass thru", but didn't find anything.

Yeah, it's tough to know how to phrase the search criteria. This thread should help get you started...

2 wires can easily be run through the firewall grommet for the hood latch cable.
On passenger side there is nowhere to run through due to the heating and cooling system.

You can run a wire thru the same grommet that the harness goes thru below the passenger side hood hinge.
I ran a 6ga wire thru there and tucked it under the trim all the way to the cubby in the hatch so that I could wire in an inverter.
Used a piece of coat hanger to pull thru a piece of butcher string then used the spring to pull thru the cable. It comes out just above the interior fuse block.
If you're running just one or two small wires then you've got lots of room.

^ This. Pretty easy to run a coat hangar thru the grommet, then pull a cord, then pull the wires. I removed the interior panel around the fuses to find the coat hangar, and to make routing easier. Got all the interior and engine bay wiring done, just need to finish on the bumper, then wait for it to get dark.
Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to seeing how well this light bar works. It is a 20 inch Olympus.
The only bad thing about this forum is it is too easy to get answers, makes you lazy! Thanks again guys.

My 1996 does not have that harness through firewall on passenger side. I did not realize that changed for 97+, which made my previous post incorrect.
Enjoy the light bar, I do..
