Default Eaton G80 locker

Have anyone had any experience with this locker? I've read that they came factory in some Volvos that had the rear D30 and could be used in our D30s. I see I can get one off ebay for pretty cheap new and wondering how it handles compared to say the trac-lok which is known for not being very good, but it uses a different system than the trac-lok. I haven't found much info on them for jeeps so I don't want to base the use off big v8 chevys. I figured that for the price if it's good maybe it'll be worth a try compared to spending $600 on a truetrac

They use centrifugal force to lock and when that happens and your really stuck or have bigger than factory tires etc. Its known to blow up. I have never used one myself but look on YouTube and you can see people cracking the diff cover to have the parts and chunks fall out. The ones I've seen have all been v8s but it could be the same result when off road.

Yea I looked them up and with many parts that don't seem to be as reliable as a truetrac, it was just a thought.

If you say so. I had one in my front axle when I first swapped it in and I hated it. Fine till you lift a tire then it's basically an open diff. I took it out after two rides. I was used to having a locker though so if you are used to an open diff than you may like it. For the price of a truetrac add a little more and get a full case locker and be done with it.

Probably depends on the types of wheel you do too. I stay on Blue/Green trials and haven't had any wheels in the air yet. But with winter driving I don't want a locker like the detroit but don't want to spend the money on a selectable.

I have had my Detroit in my D30 now for 2 winters this will be the 3rd and can't for the life of me see why people complain so much about them. They really aren't that big of an issue, granted it isn't as nice as my 04 GC "Overland" but very few are on the highway in the snow or ice.

The lockers do require more attention on ice than a limited slip but you have to give up so much with them in most case's.
