Hey,
I like this. Looks quick and easy.
My ignition is totally FUBAR right now. How would I do this where I don't need a key at all? Thanks.

connect the wires that need power to the swtch also. just turn your tumbler torward and keep turning, your key will snap off. if you ever wanna use it as a kill switch then you can use a flathead to turn tumbler off and no one will be the wiser lol

the the non redneck way is to connect the other wires that get power from the red wire in that plug. gotta just figure out what goes to what with a multimeter then splice into the power wire

I'm confused. Say I do this your way. Can I get in my jeep, flip that toggle switch, then start my jeep? I want it to need my keys to be in the accessory switch position to allow it to start for security.

i did mine with toggle switches, and eliminated the key and just put a switch on the fuel pump wire to cut power to it.

Just bought everything I needed to do this in my 2000. Not a complete rookie to wiring but most of it has been car audio and don't want to goof this up on the first try since I just bought my xj! I know this post is old but if you still had a pic of the mod as a whole and where all the wires were connected to laying around I'd appreciate it. Think I got it but I'm just trying to make sure it's dead on. Thanks Dixie great write up.

Old bump.

I just did this yesterday in my xj. Saturday I'm finishing the starter instal and firing it up. I'll post back what I found. The instructions I found elsewhere were for older xj and this one seemed almost too easy. Thanks ol'dixie

how does this work with the sentry key? do you not need to tape or velcro the grey part of the key to the steering column? or hide it somewhere inside the plastics?

My understanding of the wiring process is that you are basically hot wiring the main power to the starter. I assume there is a device that detects the chip keys and thus says "this isn't a legit key" and shuts off the power. I would just say by pass that altogether. Not sure if that's how it works though.

I just finished wiring everything up. I put the push button in my cigarette lighter. Only problem I have is my wipers don't work now and my AC stays on after I shut it down with the toghle switch. Any ideas or tips?

Things you'll need:
16g wire
wire connectors.
switch connectors
crimps
one on off toggle switch
one pushbutton on/off monentary switch
2 coors lights

Get started!

open beer one.

take lower dash panels off. one plastic one metal.
3 screws in bottom of plastic and two at top of metal one

take lower steering plastic. 3 screws underneath.

theres a large connection to the left of the column. its white.
disconnect it and locate the YELLOW wire. this is the starter wire.
Attachment 73214
Attachment 73213

connect a wire from one side of the momentary pushbutton switch to the yellow wire.use proper connectors.

take the other side and wire it to the on/off toggle.

open beer two

Locate the RED wire. this is your 12v constant that brings power to your accessories. connect the end that comes from the harness to the center pole on the on/off toggle and the end that goes to the connector to the same pole the pushbutton connects to.
Attachment 73215

Drill your mounting holes. i picked the front dash section next to my guage cluster.
Attachment 73216

connect all wires.

Leave some extra in the Red wire that connects to center post on on/off toggle if you want to run a killswitch under the dash.

that should be it. you can leave your key in the run position.
