My key broke off a long time ago and since my engine is out at the moment i figured id do this now.
Things you'll need:
16g wire
wire connectors.
switch connectors
crimps
one on off toggle switch
one pushbutton on/off monentary switch
2 coors lights
Get started!
open beer one.
take lower dash panels off. one plastic one metal.
3 screws in bottom of plastic and two at top of metal one
take lower steering plastic. 3 screws underneath.
theres a large connection to the left of the column. its white.
disconnect it and locate the YELLOW wire. this is the starter wire.

connect a wire from one side of the momentary pushbutton switch to the yellow wire.use proper connectors.
take the other side and wire it to the on/off toggle.
open beer two
Locate the RED wire. this is your 12v constant that brings power to your accessories. connect the end that comes from the harness to the center pole on the on/off toggle and the end that goes to the connector to the same pole the pushbutton connects to.

Drill your mounting holes. i picked the front dash section next to my guage cluster.

connect all wires.
Leave some extra in the Red wire that connects to center post on on/off toggle if you want to run a killswitch under the dash.
that should be it. you can leave your key in the run position.

First, Dixie submitted this as a write-up and then just copy and pasted the text so we can get a little hint as to what was going to happen. It's all my fault lol
Dixie- this set-up works with the key correct? Well, for those of use who still have the key :P. Meaning, if you push the switch, nothing will happen correct? unless the key is in the RUN posistion?

Just did this in my '96 but I haven't taken the lock plate off of my steering column... so i need my keys still too.
I will be very happy once it's fully functional!

have to take lock plate off for no key.

pics should be there on the write up page one when it gets ok'd

have to use key for the steering wheel to work and with my method of only using the red and yellow wire then none of the accessories will have power without key too.

im getting another on off toggle and making the kill switch today. then you have to know where the hidden killswitch is to do anything.

They make switches that are easily removeable... or even put the starter swtich with and nline fuse, then just take the fuse with you.
Something like this for the kill switch if you wanna go above and beyond...
