Default Dual merlin transfer case?

I'm doing research getting ready to possibly buy a tera 4 to 1 transfer case. I good at fab and want my 1000 bucks to go as far as I can. I was told I can get an adapter plate and put on dual merlin cases and drop Toyota axles under my jeep. Ok sound easy. Has anyone done it? I I have seen Toyota trucks with merlin cases wheel axle etc for 1500. What do you think.
NO I HATE TOYOTA CRAP. Serous thought and yes I do love my 88 Cherokee.

At the moment running 33 6 inch lift all junk yard and rear locker. It rocks but soon I want axles etc.

I think you will find that you won't have enough room for a doubled T-case and still have a good rear driveshaft angle. Toyota trucks wheel very well and have huge aftermarket support, I have no hate for them at all. Very solid trucks.

Are the merlin cases longer then the 231s or something? People double the 231s all the time without problem...

The Marlin crawlers are great but don't like big power and that's why they work so well with the 22r. Also yota axles are narrower than stock. The yota cases and axles are passenger drop so a lot of floor and exhaust mods would be in order. Also you won't find an adapter for a yota case and a jeep tranny.

Can you explain the N 231 transfer case stack please. I have an extra 1 in the garage. My buddy said there's a company that'll make any adapter. I will check with him what company. I would run Toyota probably a Chevy axle. He told me what ones but I can't remember.

D and D Machine, Madrooster, and myself are the only companies I know of that make 231 doubler adapters. There is quite a bit of info I posted up here the other day. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/t-...stions-149168/

Let me know if you have any more questions that I can help you out with.

For 1000 bucks you can grab a Rubicon case and be done with it. It works, and is strong, plain and simple and bolt in. It will be all 90% of people who are looking for more tcase gear need.

But then you don't have the 2.72:1 option. Only 4:1. With a doubler you can choose 7.4:1, 2.72:1, and 1:1. Just my .02

So, stock or way too low. Plus you need to shorten your ds. Makes sense.

For me 1:1 (high) is too high for most trail riding and 2:72 (231 low) is ALMOST to low for the same trail but much better then 1:1. Then on the rocks, 2:72 will get the job done some places, but 7.4:1 gives me more control on those more diffucult and steep obstacles where precision driving is necessary.

With a 4:1 ratio you will be too low for trail rides and not low enough for rock crawling. If you want the best of both worlds then I would go doubler. Simple as that.

Your right if I put a 4 to 1 in then I will be to low all the time. I live in California and my favorite trail is Fordyce creek (harder than the Rubicon). But there's a lot of easy trail. I keep it in for low to help out on the auto trans. (using ac radiator as a cooler). I'm going to double stack my np231 cause I have an extra one and those cases are so cheap on Craig list there readily available.
Thanks to lead Foot I'm going to get his kit for 450. Always love to help out a local business.
I'm very excited to have the two sets of gears for the trail. It will be easier on my rig. I loved my merlin case on my 4runner.

Lead Foot? I the double stack np231 can you explain the different shift options? I like my merlin I had a 2 low so in 5th gear on the high way I could shift my case for a 4 1/2 gear very helpful on the highway. Would the np231 stack do the same?

I am a little confused by your question. 2 low engaged while in fifth gear wouldnt give you a gear BETWEEN 4th and 5th, even with the marlin cases. Instead it would act close to 2nd or 3rd gear when in high range.

The shifting options on the 231 doubler are the same as the marlin cases though. you can run rear wheel drive high (front case in high, rear case in 2 high), rear wheel drive low (front case in low, rear case in 2 high), 4 wheel drive high (front case in high, rear case in 4 high), 4 wheel drive low (front case in high, rear case in 4 low), and 4 wheel drive low, low (front case in low, rear case in 4 low).

Make sense? There are even more options if you choose a D300 for the rear case. You can then have every gear combination listed above in rear wheel drive or even front wheel drive.

that makes sense. so if iI use a d300 case you can run just front wheels correct? my friends has that on his rig. What vehicle does the d300 come off of?
