Arrow Doing a push button starter switch set up and need a little help...

Hey guys its been a while since I have been on here. I started a new higher paying job the first of the year and do a lot of traveling now during the week in Idaho, Washington, and Montana installing, fixing car washes. Any ways I got back late last night from Moscow, ID and when I went to start my xj the damn ignition switch blew the teeth off the end of the rod in the column. So I found a thread here late last night were a guy did a dual switch toggle for acc and kill push to start. I got the parts today and it's all wired up just need to hook up my 4 wire and it's freaking cold out. So per his thread he hooked into the red for 12v constant, yellow is to the starter, blue is the kill and green w/black stripe is acc. I have the red and the yellow but dont see the blue or the green with black. The thread was on a 94 so im guessing that there may be some color changes from 89 to 94. I'm also assuming that I am to go after the wire harness that plugs into the ignition switch on the tail top end of the column? I'm all set to hook up just want to do it fast seeing that the temps are not real nice right now. Thanks in advance ,

Ahh yes that is what I needed. Thank you sir for the quick help. I'll hop out in the cold garage in the morning and get it wired up before the game. I should also have a new company laptop next week so I won't have to deal with my tablet when I need to get on the forum.

Ok hooked up but no fuel pump. What color wire is the fuel pump trigger?

According to the diagram on the link, is the yellow wire.

Yeah I'm cut and tapped right into the yellow one but no fuel pump. If I key up the acc position on the column I get the pump. I'm not screwed at this point. I can at least get it started right now but I just want it to work off the toggle switch and only have the key for locking the steering wheel.

I think it's volt meter time. I'll power up with the key and see what I have that is hot and then test the same wires with the toggle switch on and see what happens.

OK so the orange wire is hot at 11.5 volts with the key in acc position, so key off then toggle switch on the orange wire is dead. So that tells me I nee to run a wire from my toggle switch to that orange wire so that it gets power.

So I cut the orange wire and hooked it to my toggle switch and it did the trick. Fuel pump fires off and she runs. Pop off the switch and system is killed. Funny thing though the pump will still fire if I use the key and go to the acc position even with the orange wire cut. Not gonna worry it works.....

Would you mind posting a diagram or just laying it out real simple like for newbies? I was trying to fix a wobbly steering column and ended up with a broken ignition switch actuator, so I'm thinking of just going with the push button/toggle switch set up. Any tips or advice appreciated. My xj is an 87 4wd with the saginaw steering column w/tilt. On the plus side I got the wobble fixed...it would just be nice to get it started again.

Sorry bud but it can't get any easier than the diagram above. if that proves to be to tough for you then google the procedure and it will net you some pic's that may help. I did mine a while ago and I'm on call right now so I don't have time to draw it all out for you. Do like I did and search.
