I am looking at getting a locking or at least limited slip rear differential because i wanna get into some crazier rock crawling and overlanding and i was wondering what you guys would recommend. I would like to keep it under 1500$ and even less would be great but i just dont know what my best options are. Thank you y'all!

Do y'all really think throwing a detroit in the front will be better? Ive heard that throwing a locker in the front will quickly destroy anything weak in the front. Im also thinking of doing an arb rear locker since i want onboard air anyway. I also want this jeep to be highwayable, its being built up for offroading real out in the sticks in alaska and such.

Fwiw i too would suggest a grizzly locker dor just about any axle if its available. Ive had great relaibility and use out of all of mine.
Is your current setup actually holding you back? Or are you just wanting to upgrade And Then start hitting the harder stuff? If this is the case I would suggest to start hitting the hard stuff until you start breaking things. This more soo justifies the need to upgrade. Who knows - your wheeling style may not require the "Big upgrades". You'll find out pretty quick if it's necessary or not.

Ive broke 8 or so stock big ujoint front shafts with the grizzle locker withh 4.88s and 35s . I then finally installed some chromoly shafts and knock on wood i havent broke a shaft since.
Front with shafts and open rear is more capable than locked rear open front. By far more capable.
I kinda feel chromoly front shafts shafld be High on the upgrade priorty thats why i place them ahead of rear locker.
I still pack a short and long shaft in my jeep just incase **** happens

If your planning on swapping the axles to bigger ones then (long story short) I would not invest much into your current axles. A lunchbox locker sure but not a full mechanical or air/electric. Unless you dont mind losing $ when it comes time to get rid of them.

I have had Spartan lockers in both axles for about 6 years with 4.56 gears and 35" tires. I beat on it pretty hard and haven't broken anything, they work great on and off road.
