For a XJ rear.. Off the top of my head.. 97-01 XJ C8.25, 95-2002 (I think that is the year range) Ford 8.8 out of a Ford Exploder and Mercury Mountainer, 87-89 XJ D44

Those are what you should keep an eye out for

They came with both.. Some have the D35, Some have the C8.25.. If it has ABS it has the D35. If it doesn't have ABS it could have either or..

Take a look at your rear diff.. Hopefully you got the C8.25 and won't have to worry about a axle swap unless you plan on running 36's+ lol.. The D30 is your front axle

is he trying to say that C-clip d35's dont have bolts in the backing plate?

BOTH the non c-clip and c-clip have bolts/studs that hold the backing plate to the axle. the difference is that the non c-clip ones also have a bearing retainer plate bolted in there.

im digging this hole super deep... the more i read the worse it gets, c= custom... so i guess all pre90 non c-clip is the general consensus

correct. Any rear from a pre-90 XJ will be non-c-clip. Any rear after that (d35 or c8.25) is c-clip

and yes, the "c" stands for custom.
