Tech tip: Is it a Dana 35 or a Chrysler 8.25?
I know this has probaby been beat to death, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in on how to ID the rears, and tell if its one or the other. The D35 and 8.25 have similar shaped diff covers with the same amount of bolts on the cover(10). The 8.25 has larger cover, but its only visually larger if you have seen a D35 and an 8.25. Otherwise,if you haven't seen both, you can't tell what's larger compared to the other.
A dead giveaway on how to ID a D35 is to look for the "D35C on the rear as pictured.
Then people wonder if its a C Clip rear or not. Simple, look at where the tube goes into the brake backing plate. If there are bolts, its NOT a C Clip rearend(thanks to MUDRNR for this tip).
I'm prepping to do a front and rear diff swap and just wanted to share.

For some reason, ^^^ pics don't work for me, unless I right click and open in new tab/window.
You might want to add this pic to your write-up, maybe crop out the D44 and D30.

only early model D35s had the metal plug....until they started getting cheap at which point they started using that stupid leaky rubber plug
nice post 90_cherokee knew about the stamp but didnt know bout the bolts, i was worried this would be yet another "what diff is this" thread

yes, every aftermarket cover i have seen has a metal plug, if yours leaks and your feeling cheap ive even seen guys just weld bungs over the hole that way they could put a metal plug in.
