dana 35 vs 8.25
Ok so I'm sure this is somewhere on here but can you all give me some insight to whether or not it would be worth it to get the 8.25 or keep my dana 35 I would like to buy a locker for it but I don't know if it is worth doing? Or just save up and get a 44? Any tips? Thankyou

Yes the Chrysler 8.25" axle is an upgrade over the Dana35, especially the 97+ 29Spline axle. Mid 96 and older had 27 splines. The only way to know is to pull the shafts and count the splines.

Just like Serious said, the 8.25 is better that the Dana 35, especially the 29 spline one. The 8.25 is solid up to 33's so if thats all your looking to run then id say you could build one up but if you want to bigger or do hard wheeling then the D44 or a 8.8 would probably be better suited for your need. Just depends on your financial disposition and the type of wheeling you want to do.

As long as your not doing any major rock crawling you should be good with a 8.25 and a locker maybe some new gears like 4.56's?? 27 or 29 spline should be fine and later you could give her some new shafts but you'll be good anyhow

Yeah that's great I don't have the money to rock crawl because if I tip or something I will have no car for a long time!

To go to a 8.25 you have to change some minor things on your drive shaft and rear suspension but with a 2.8 if you have a manual tranny then you have 3.55's now and if you have an auto you have 4.10's stock in your D35. Swapping over to a 8.25 i would run 4.10 gears if you have a manual tranny and 4.56's if you have an auto but thats just me

29 spline 8.25 is much stronger than the 35
35 has thin tubes, tiny ring and pinion, tiny axle shafts (1.12") at narrow point, and have a habit of tearing up spider gears.
8.25 swap only requires new ubolts and swapping out you're driveshaft from a similarly equipped 8.25 xj
...its well worth the effort if you plan to stay with 35" or below tires
