i run a fully built HP D44 bc i dont want to break, and i'm running regular, off the shelf, spicer 760x ujoints. but even on 35s, i know i can still break it. with 30 or 27 spline chromo stuff in a 30, you'll be breaking ring gears first. with a fully built D30 (full case locker, cover, truss, chromos, good ujoints.. maybe even RCVs) the failure will be fantastic and catastrophic when you blow it all up. but you have to be an idiot to be that hard on it and not expect breakage. i know the first thing to go in my 44 will be a 760 ujoint, and if that happens i'll just unlock my hubs and drive home, or to the campground and fix it if its early on/i have the drive to fix it.
breakage will happen, your right foot, brain, and gear just determine when.

I always hope my hubs will be the weak link. Detroit, trussed, ruff stuff cover, cryo'd gears, Warn hubs, chromo shafts and yukon super joints.
Here's to hoping.

Ford Truck.
You can read here. I'm sure there's a better tech link to answer your question but I'm not feeling like searching it up for you.

Mine is a LP Dana 44 from a Wagoneer. I went that route since I didn't want to go full width and I didn't want to narrow a full width HP D44. The low pinion doesn't bother me but looking back I wish I would have narrowed a High pinion for the hell of it.

I've heard the argument of keeping part "X" stock for ease of repair like a fuse. While I agree that if I have to change something I'd prefer it to be easy, but I don't want to change it often either.

Well going with 30 spline inner and 27 spline outers and keeping the 30 until it actually dies. If I upgrade it will be to tons and not in between.
Thanx
