So there is some surface rust in different places on my Jeep, so I've decided to paint it in od green. My question, I've heard flat paint doesn't wash well? Can I put a couple coats of clear over a flat green? Will it look funny?

 

Flat paint does not wash well! Mine would come off even! You should be ok as long as you use a flat clear coat.

 

All the flat paint I've had cleaned up fine. Dont wax it, just wash it. If the paint is halfway decent quality it will be fine.

 

Use a Flat clear coat it'll wash fine my 87 XJ I had about 9 years ago I painted flat black with a flat clear before it was the cool thing to do it washed fine

About how many cans would do one coat?

 

I had my buddy's father who paints in a body shop spray mine I can't remember how much paint he used

 

The whole jeep? Quite a few. I did my integra in flat white a few years back and I think I ended up using about 8 cans. I also went a little heavy on the paint since I was there already anyway.
