Default thanks Anony

This is what I found on the 96 connector:

6 5 4
3 2 1

1 fuel pump feed (fuel pump relay - 12 volts) (DG/RD)
2 sensor ground (BK/LT BLU) PCM A4
3 instrument cluster (DK BLU)
4 -
5 low fuel (BK BLU/WT) PCM C26
6 ground (BLK)

number 3 is the one that worries me the most. Seems that even if i connect the correct wires to the PCM, i'm left with what to do with the number 3 wire.

I assume the gauge works from that wire somehow.

Here's the info from the other post:

Fuel pump module connector for 97+

6 5 4
3 2 1

1 fuel pump feed & fuel ga. sending unit driver (fuel pump relay - 12 volts) (DB/WT)
3 fuel level sensor (DB/LG) <<<< PCM C26 (5 volts)
4 fuel return sensor (BR/YL) >>>> PCM A4 (return signal)
6 ground (BK)

PCM >>>>> (B+/B-) >>>>> fuel gauge

The fuel gauge sending unit uses 12 volts from the fuel pump feed

FYI, I have a 96 w/ fuel sender issues. None available anywhere. A royal pain in the butt to say the least. I just found this link for those that need 96 pump assy. Price is high but it is the only one I've found anywhere. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...hfupu5003869AA

Have you ever figured out the sending unit wiring? I ran into this same problem. Had both pumps side by side and seen the 97+ sending unit had a level reading then a reading for fuel light? Where 96 just had one wire the ground. I wired it how I thought it would work but I’m think the risistance may be wrong?? With any help would be appreciated before I tear back into it with a bolt meter.

All I know is that the 1996 XJ has a fuel pump assembly that works only on the 96. No other year will work as a direct replacement.

In a '96, you can use a 95 and earlier fuel pump and regulator, just replace them in the in-tank assembly

there is a thread on naxja about it
