Default AW4 no tcm

Ok, gotta 98 xj, I destroyed the transmission and motor, so new motor and new trans, only issue is the transmission is from a 92, no I'd have to run it with no tcm, Its already bolted in the jeep, how would I run the wiring? I understand that 2nd gear solenoid will need to be wired to a toggle switch, any other solenoids need to be wired? I need all 4 gears and don't care about tc lock up, it's a trail rig, only street use is to the trail and from the trail, sometimes I drive it to work if the daily Cherokee breaks lol, also where are the solenoid wires located on the transmission? Any help is appreciated, I can answer any questions, pics would be fantastic thanks

No TC lock up? I like to run the trails us much as possible locked, so much lower tranny fluid temperature verses when the TC is slipping. Id add a TC lock switch while your at it if my rig. If you got a tranny gage, you can see high peak temps when tc slipping under load.

You might be able to source a cheap control unit, maybe fromwrecker or for a bit more cash ebay. I got a nice engine brain from ebay.

I eliminated the tcm, used 2 rocker switches. Toggle switch to allow lockup or not in any gear. Works 👍 great

Do you have any pictures of this? I've got an MJ I'm putting an aw4 in with a 1.9 TDI and I'm trying to get a visual of what it should look like.

Only 3 solenoid wires get used. I used 2 rocker switches for gear shifting and a toggle switch to lock the converter. Switches are next to each other and set up like a 4 speed manual. upper left 1st gear, lower left 2nd gear upper right 3rd gear, lower right OD. Works 👍 great. R

It will be a little while. I'm sourcing the TDI come spring time. I was originally going to stroke a 4.0l, but decided on the TDI route for turning 1 ton axles and 40's. I will post pictures when I have good updates.
