Default aw4 doesnt have 1st gear

My 95 Cherokee 4x4 doesn't have 1st gear when it's in drive. In order for me to have 1st is to shift it manually. Any ideas??

I would say a bad solenoid in the trans. Not 100% sure though.

That's what I'm thinking too. And it should be the 1/2 solenoid right?

I think its the 1/2 3/4 solenoid. Pretty sure there's only 2 others a 2/3 solenoid and one for reverse? It should be the 1/2 3/4 solenoid in the middle.

I take it that you checked the trans fluid level and condition. If you have and the fluid is nice and red and actually smells good then I would say that the solenoid is giving you issues.

I changed all 3 on my 97 last week and the biggest issue that I had was getting the dipstick tube seperated. I tried the hose clamp idea, heat, cussing, pulling and tugging and all those failed for me. I eneded up cutting the tube and using 1/2" fuel line to splice it back. Just be careful with the wiring because it can be brittle from the heat.
