Aux Fuse Box
So one of my projects that I hope to get done this year is setting up aux fuse boxes for lighting.
I just want to ask about part of the project in this thread.
This concerns the illumination of factory switches when you turn on the headlights.
Not the 12 volt run source needed for the switches.
So as some might know I put an Ext Idle switch in my Jeep.
I found that fuse slot #6 in the Junction Box of my '00 runs all the illumination in the gauge cluster, heating controls, tranny and transfer case bezels, switch panel, etc.
So to get my Ext Idle switch to illuminate when you turn on the headlights I put a fuse tap in slot #6, where originally there is a 5 amp fuse, and used 2 5 amp fuses in the fuse tap.
I also grounded the Ext Idle switch to metal in the dash.
Want I want to see if I can do is using the fuse tap with 2 5 amp fuses and wire to a fuse box.
This is the one I am looking at:
Figure try to mount it under the dash somewhere.
Run all the wires for the illumination of the switches to the fuse box.
There would be 5. 4 factory fog light switches and 1 Ext Idle switch.
Using a 5 amp fuse in each slot.
I would ground the 5 switches to that fuse box and run one wire off the ground stud from the fuse box to somewhere metal on the dash.
Now assuming my calculations are correct the draw of one switch for illumination is .12 amps. And half that when you turn the dimmer all the way down.
So how bad an idea is this and what are the chances my XJ will burst into flames?
