When i got my ZJ it never worked, so back in December i took it out of the Jeep and hung it on the Christmas Tree, you know leaving my mark.
So now I have a road trip coming up and my portable DVD player (originally bought for the five year old) is my best bet at distracting my girlfriend so I don't have to hit every single rest stop. As such, i need to reinstall it.
I was never able to figure out why it wasn't getting power, but the old owner did some really bad wiring in the thing so who knows. My question is, can i just run a hot and ground to this thing from somewhere? Or does it NEED to be fused? I'm not even sure the wiring for it exists anymore.

Stick a fuse in it. Most car appliences have internal ones, but for the $2 cost of a simple in line, the peace of mind would be worth it.
Btw, I have fused and iirc switched triple outlet boxes for $17.99. 15 amp, not sure if it has the switch. Ill be getting one for my rig, they are reallly nice.

On our 93's the 30 amp ATO fuse for the rear defogger, appears to be powered all the time. The ATO fuse is the only full sized fuse in the bottom of the fuse box, passenger side. It is very easy to run a wire over to it. That said, its difficult to see the screw that mounts the fuse box, but it makes a perfect ground point also.
I picked up my amplifier power from it. Bottom is hot, top is through the fuse.
