They are fairly easy. Yo need a pin punch to drive the pin holding the cross pin in place, and I would suggest removing the carrier to make it much easier. I would also suggest a very small screwdriver to compress the alignment pin springs.

If you do go this route it is not hard to set the gears back up but you will need a special tool to fit down the length of the axles and turn the bearing caps as well as a dial indicator. Tool can be seen below.Originally Posted by willsmysticcobra
ah got ya. One guy said you'll have to do at least a partial gear set-up on an 8.25 axle if you remove the carrier. Unlike Dana axles that use shims between bearings & carrier, an 8.25 uses screw type adjuster under the bearing caps.

Love the Aussie Lockers, a lot of bang for your buck.....but, I do not recommend them for your D-30 if you are running anything bigger than 33's.
The reason I say this has nothing to do with the locker itself but the stock Dana 30 carrier is weak and will fail.
If you want to go to 35's go with a full case locker like a ARB or Detroit. Then you can worry about the ring gear and the axle shafts!
Ask me how I know all of this

I have aussies front and rear and have no complaints.
Only remove the carrier for front install. Rear gets done in vehicle. Very easy to install.
I'll only change the front to go to a selectable. They do everything I ask for on 35's.
And grinding the cross pin isn't as much about material hardness, as it is about surface on the lockers side gear. That's what causes problems.
4.56 and up you just grind a tooth on the ring gear.
