Anyone ever install a spacer in place of clutch fan?

Not on my Cherokee, but on my Chevy, think it was a 2in for that. Not thinking I would do it on a Cherokee, that bracket the fan mounts to isn't something I would want to replace too often. Seems like it would speed up the wear on that bearing with a full pull all the time.

I took the fan off of my 96 when the weather cooled down. I picked up ~3mpg.
It stays cool on the move and the electric fan (I have A/C) kicks on in stop & go situations. I'll keep it off until it's time to use the A/C.
I didn't need any other hdwr, I just put the nuts back on the studs to secure the pulley.

Is it bad for the motor Or why do ppl say its bad to do??
