Me and my dad have been talkin about a way to cut the fenders on my stock 89 cherokee 4 door to fit thirty threes and he thinks if I cut along the outer edge of the fender flare it would let me run the thirty threes. Is this true? Has anyone ever tried it?

yeah that's a pretty good place to cut it. even to fit 35's
or most people just remove the factory flare and cut and fold the fender. don't try to cut the rears though. pinch seam and whatnot

OP it can be done but your going to have to do a lot of cutting and some welding.

I think hes trying with no lift so a lot of cutting to clear them.

This is what I did. Mini flares. I didn't cut and fold, I cut the rears then put bolts through the mini flares to hold the pinch seam together. Then I filled the pinch seam on the inside with expanding insulation foam. Many coats of flat black paint to help keep the edges from rusting. I have no idea if you will be able to fit the tires you want to put on though.

Expanding foam holds water & will cause rust issues.

You could do a 2 in. BB, cut fenders & run 33's maybe 35's.

I would buy a like a bb kit that had 3" spacers for the front and 2" shackles for the rear. When you put the front spacers on remove your stock ones and it will only give you 2.25" to 2.5" for the front. If you go over 2.5" of lift you need to change your shocks. After that lift you can cut out the front fenders as much as you want. The rear I would trim out to the pinch welds and then do the cut and fold. With that 33's should fit ok as long as you are not doing a lot of flexing. I drew an outline around the flares on my XJ, removed the flares then cut the line I can easily fit 35's with my 3.5" lift (currently running 33's)

Im running 2.5" lift with 35s did a basic cut and fold front and rear. Does great clears the tires nicely.











Edit: Please ignore the bald spare tire was a temporary tire until I had my other tire fixed. Also you will need to cut and fold the inner pinch seem in the front and rear fenders. It will allow for more flex with less rub
